Taylor v. Caldwell

Taylor (plaintiff) contracted with Caldwell (defendant) for the use of a music hall and gardens for four days (June 17, July 15, August 5, and August 19). Taylor wanted the premises to give a series of four grand concerts and to hold fetes on the days of the concerts. The contract set out various stipulations as to what each party was to supply for these events and as to the manner in which they should be carried on. Before the first day a concert was to be given but after the parties reached their agreement, the music hall was destroyed by a fire. Thus, Taylor was unable to hold the concerts and fetes he had planned. Taylor sued Caldwell for damages.
