Facts
Blinn worked as an executive director for Beatrice. In June 2002, Blinn received an offer from a Kansas hospital that would have offered him more responsibility and income potential. Blinn was 67 years old at the time. Blinn approached Beatrice’s administrator, Larry Emerson, with a resignation letter that he intended to submit if he did not receive assurances that Beatrice wanted him to stay. During the meeting, Emerson told Blinn that “we’ve got at least five more years of work to do.” Blinn also asked permission to approach the board of directors and was told by the chairman of the board that they wanted Blinn to stay. Blinn remained at his job with Beatrice until 2003 when he was asked to resign and his employment was terminated.
