The Defendant, Antoine Jones, owned a nightclub in Washington, D.C> The Defendant waws suspected by the FBI of being involved in a large-scale narcotic trafficking scheme. As part of the investigation, the FBI agents gathered information from various sources and applied to the federal district court for a warrant authorizing the use of a GPS device on the vehicle owned by the Defendant’s wife. The district court issued the warrant, authorizing the installation of the device within the District of Columbia within 10 days. On the eleventh day, while the vehicle was parked in Maryland, FBI agents placed the GPS device on the undercarriage of the vehicle. Over a four-week period, the device tracked the vehicle’s location and relayed over more than 2,000 pages of data. The Defendant was then charged with multiple drug-related offenses. Prior to trial, the Defendant moved to suppress the data from the GPS device. The district court granted the motion in part.
