Dore v. Arnold Worldwide, Inc.
Citation:
39 Cal. 4th 384, 46 Cal. Rptr. 3d 668, 139 P.3d 56.Facts
In early 1999, Dore interviewed for a Management Supervisor position with AWI. During the interview, he was told that he would play a “critical” role and that AWI needed a “long term fix” to “build a relationship” with an important new client. In April 1999, Dore orally accepted a job offer. On April 6, 1999, AWI sent Dore an offer letter and requested that he read and sign the letter. The letter included the following term “. . . please know that as with all of our company employees, your employment . . . is at will. This simply means [AWI] has the right to terminate your employment at any time . . .” Dore signed and returned the letter. In August 2001, AWI terminated Dore’s employment.
