The Millers owned land in Lower Salford Township and wanted to construct a house on the property. The Millers requested a variance, so that they could build a house on their lot. Specifically, the Millers sought a variance from the 75-foot rear yard requirement, which says that the front and back yards must be at least 75-feet deep. The Millers wanted a reduction in this rear yard requirement. Appellants lived across the street from the Millers’ land and they challenged the Millers’ request because they asserted that, if the variance was granted, it would hurt their home — a house included on the Mational Register of Historic Places.
