Cecarelli v. Maher
Facts
Cecarelli (plaintiff) went to a public dance in New Haven. At the end of the night, three women asked him to drive them home. George Maher (defendant), John Heinz, and a third man, apparently mad that the women had rejected them, set upon Cecarelli and beat him severely. The attack resulted in Cecarelli suffering from extended pain, missing work for a week, and needing to have five teeth replaced.Cecarelli sued Maher in a Connecticut state court. Maher did not respond to Cecarelli’s complaint, and a default judgment was entered. The court addressed the matter.
