Bailey v. State of Alabama

Bailey was committed for detention on the charge of obtaining $15 under a contract in writing with intent to injure or defraud his employer. The manager of the employing company testified that at the time of entering into this contract there were present only the witness and Bailey, and that the latter then obtained from the company the sum of $15; that Bailey worked under the contract throughout the month of January and February, 1908, and then, without just cause, and without refunding the money, ceased to work for said Riverside Company, and has not since that time performed any service for said company under said contract, and has refused and failed to perform any further service thereunder, and has, without just cause, refused and failed to refund said $15. He also testified that Bailey was a negro.
