On July 10, 1995, MCI and Jordan entered into a 10 year endorsement agreement where Jordan licensed use of his name, likeness, “other attributes,” and services in order to promote MCI’s telecommunications products and services. Pursuant to the agreement, Jordan made himself available 4 days a year for 4 hours per day for promotion appearances and to produce advertisements. MCI paid Jordan a $5 million signing bonus and compensated him $2 million annually. From 1995 to 2000, Jordan appeared in a number of ads for MCI. In 2002, however, MCI filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy and Jordan subsequently filed a claim seeking compensation for the remaining 4 years of the endorsement agreement.
