A year later he suggested hey move in together and that she could support them through work as a prostitute. He advertised her online and ran ads with her picture. She quit her job to be a prostitute full time. Defendant controlled her every move, took all her earnings, and only gave her $35 a week for condoms, food, and gas. He physically beat Kelsey and even made her have an abortion. She thought she had nowhere to go and was scared of the defendant so she never left him. She also groomed other women into joining his business venture.
Defendant met Whitney T. when she was 20 at a house party. She had a young child and defendant started dating her as well. Whitney learned that his income came from Kelsey’s work as a prostitute. Defendant told her she could provide for herself and her family if she too worked as a prostitute. She moved in with the defendant and Kelsey, and the defendant began advertising her online. She turned all her earnings into the defendant and was scared to keep money she earned because she witnessed the defendant beating Kelsey. She left twice and came bac both times.
Defendant met Whitney E. when she was 18-years-old and had dropped out of high school, moved out of her parent’s home, and was using drugs with her boyfriend. She had been working as a prostitute for a week when her boyfriend suggested she work for the defendant. Defendant advertised her online and expected $900 from her a day. Defendant assaulted her one day when she questioned his rules, called her mother, and left that day filing a police report against the defendant.
Defendant met Jemelle on her 20th birthday. Defendant leased a house and asked her to move in with him. After some heavy persuasion, defendant convinced her to start prostituting for him. He advertised her online, kept all of the money, and gave her marijuana in return. Jemelle was scared of the defendant after seeing him hit Kelsey and he told her she would regret leaving.
Defendant was charged with three counts of sex trafficking and one count of conspiring to sex traffic. Jury found him guilty on all charges.
