In 1960, Mr. and Mrs. Gotcher took an expenses-paid trip to Germany to tour a Volkswagen manufacturing facility. The trip also included visiting several areas of economic development around Germany. The trip was paid for in part by Mr. Gotcher’s employer, Economy Motors, and in part by the Volkswagen company affiliates in America and Germany. Before the trip, Economy Motors, the Texas-based Volkswagen dealer, offered Mr. Gotcher a large interest in the business. Mr. Gotcher purchased this interest in Economy Motors upon his return from the trip.
