On March 17, 2017, Razny Jewelers in Hinsdale, Illinois was robbed. From witness statements, surveillance videos, and an anonymous tip, detectives believed the getaway vehicle was a 2003 Lexus RX with a Michigan license plate number DPA 8960. The Lexus was registered to Devinn Adams (Diggs’ wife) who had purchased the car from Headers Car Care in 2006 on credit. Adams’ contract with Headers provided: “If your vehicle has an electronic tracking device, you agree that we may use this device to find your vehicle.” Although Adams owned the Lexus, it was regularly driven by Diggs. On March 29, 2017, detectives issued an alert for information about the Lexus. A Headers employee reached out to detectives on April 4, 2017, informing them that the Lexus was equipped with a GPS tracking device. The employee gave the detective her login credentials to the GPS tracking website and authorized him to access “all the GPS records associated with Devinn Adams/Lexus RX account.” The detective proceeded to, without a warrant, download a spreadsheet containing GPS data from March 1, 2017 to April 4, 2017. From the data and use of the software program, the detective was able to ascertain exact locations of the Lexus including the location of the vehicle leading up to and at the time of the jewelry store robbery.
