Marjorie and Harold Tassi married on January 31, 1942. Harold owned a wholesale meat business purchased in 1938 for $400-$500, with a book value of $14,519.95 at marriage. Marjorie worked for ten months after marriage earning $175 monthly, then worked part-time in Harold’s business. Business records showed an additional investment of $27,615.01 in 1943, but no direct evidence of its source. During the eleven-year marriage, the business earned $419,993.17, and Harold withdrew $447,805.75. Between 1945 and 1951, Harold created seven separate trustee accounts on different dates: three for Marjorie totaling $73,962.49 and four for his brother Edwin totaling $122,514.26. Harold also gave Edwin five $1,000 bonds in 1951, 300 shares of stock in 1946, and Edwin wrote himself a $20,000 check on Harold’s account three days before Harold’s death on February 19, 1953. All transfers to Edwin occurred without Marjorie’s knowledge or consent.
