Plaintiffs, owners of property in Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana brought suit in Kansas state court against Defendant, Sun Oil Company (“Sun Oil”), a Delaware company with a principal place of business in Texas, to recover interest on previously suspended gas royalties. The Plaintiffs’ cause of action was barred by the statute of limitations in Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana, but fell within Kansas’ longer statute of limitations. The Kansas courts applied the Kansas statute of limitations and rejected Sun Oil’s arguments that applying Kansas’ statute of limitations violated the full faith and credit clause of the U.S. Constitution. The U.S. Supreme Court granted certiorari.
