Criminal Law Keyed to Dressler
State v. Kelso-Christy
Citation:
911 N.W.2d 663 (2018)Facts
In April 2015, Michael Kelso-Christy created a fake Facebook profile impersonating S.P., a former high school classmate. Using this profile, he contacted several women, including S.G., claiming S.P.’s original profile had been hacked. After establishing communication with S.G., who knew S.P. from high school, their conversation turned sexual. Kelso-Christy, still posing as S.P., suggested a sexual encounter where S.G. would be blindfolded and restrained in handcuffs, to which she agreed. Following his instructions, S.G. blindfolded herself before his arrival. Upon arriving, Kelso-Christy handcuffed S.G., engaged in sexual intercourse without speaking, and immediately left without removing her blindfold or handcuffs. S.G. became suspicious when “S.P.” stopped responding to messages and discovered the deception when contacting the real S.P. Investigation linked Kelso-Christy to the crime through phone records, fingerprints on a condom wrapper, and a list of women’s names including S.G.’s found in his bedroom.
