Caldwell was involved in a police chase, during which police officer Mark Meyer claimed he saw Caldwell toss a bag during the chase. The bag was later found and discovered to contain illegal drugs. Meyer’s claim was the sole evidence offered against Caldwell.
At trial, Caldwell attempted to impeach Meyer’s testimony to prove his character for untruthfulness. The opinion evidence offered against Meyer was from several individuals who had personally experienced negative interactions with Meyer, or knew of other individuals who had negative experiences.
