At 5:30 p.m. on May 24, 2009, a masked gunman entered Church’s Chicken on Two Notch Road in Columbia. He held one of the employees at gunpoint while the employee emptied the cash registers. After the employee filled the bad with money, the gunman exited the store. Broadnax, the gun man who had a lazy eye, was arrested nearby a few minutes later, in a vehicle matching the description given, with a gun and a bag of money. Several eye-witnesses, including his accomplice, testified against him at trial. Broadnax testified in his own defense; the judge decided to allow proof of three of his four prior armed robbery convictions.
