State v. Alcindor
Citation:
Court of Special Appeals, Maryland 2020. Case No. 117178015, 2020 WL 4334896.Facts
Defendant Alcindor and Raquel Coore ended their relationship in February 2016. Shortly after, Coore learned she was pregnant and gave birth in October 2016. In March 2017, she began dating Timothy Campbell. Alcindor and Campbell disliked each other and Campbell was vocal about his animosity toward Alcindor. The two had frequent contact because of Alcindor and Coore’s child. On June 4, 2017, Alcindor took the baby to party and promised to return her to Coore that night. It got late and, after an argument over the phone, they arranged to meet at Royal Farm Stores in Baltimore. Since it was late at night Campbell accompanied Coore to pick up the child. When they arrived they found Alcindor asleep with the baby in the car, Coore took the baby and Campbell got in Alcindor’s face “provoking” him. Alcindor and Campbell began to physically fight and Alcindor pulled out a knife. Coore tried to intervene, but Alcindor slammed her to the ground, retrieved the knife, and repeatedly stabbed Campbell. Campbell made it to Coore’s car, dying shortly after arriving at the hospital. Alcindor left the scene and was found by police in his car a short distance away cleaning up blood with baby wipes. Alcindor claimed he did not remember most of the fight, that he had acted in self-defense and was “very afraid.”
