Ivan Rodriguez was a highly successful baseball player. He signed several one-year, terminable-at-will contracts with the sports agency Speakers of Sport (plaintiff). A rival agency, ProServ, lured Rodriguez away by promising to get him between $2 to $4 million in endorsements if he signed with the company. Rodriguez left Speakers of Sport and signed with ProServ, who failed to get him any lucrative endorsements. Rodriguez eventually switched to another agent. Speakers of Sport then brought suit against ProServ, contending that the latter’s promises to Rodriguez were fraudulent.
