A Rhode Island attorney sought to represent a wife in an application for permanent residence, in which she claimed extreme cruelty by her husband. The attorney had also previously represented her husband in an application for an immigrant visa and permanent residence for the wife. The husband had subsequently withdrawn the application after he and the wife had a disagreement, but the couple reconciled and engaged the attorney to file a second application, which the husband withdrew after another disagreement. The attorney questioned whether he could continue to represent the wife or if a conflict of interest prohibited it.
