Cynthia Dennis was murdered by Peter Sataraka, her estranged boyfriend, in her apartment in a condominium complex owned by the Defendant, Discovery Bay. Sataraka talked his way past the Defendant’s security guard, waited outside Dennis’ apartment until she returned home, followed her in, and killed her. Sataraka was tried and convicted of second degree murder. Dennis’ mother and sisters, the Plaintiffs, sued the Defendant and Sataraka. The complaint alleged that the Defendant’s security guard was negligent in allowing Sataraka through the door and into the elevator.
