Facts
Defendant’s son returned from sea to Hartford, CT, and took ill. Seeing as he was poor and weak, plaintiff took him in and cared for him for 15 days until he died. Defendant then sent a letter to plaintiff promising to pay for his expenses, but then reneged. Plaintiff sued for enforcement of this promise.
