Marvin v. Marvin
Citation:
18 Cal. 3d 660, 557 P.2d 106, 134 Cal. Rptr. 815 (1976)Facts
Michelle Marvin and actor Lee Marvin lived together from October 1964 to May 1970 without marrying. Michelle alleged that she and Lee entered into an oral agreement where she would give up her career to be his companion and homemaker, while he promised to provide for her financially for the rest of her life and share equally in property acquired during their relationship. During their cohabitation, Lee allegedly acquired substantial property in his name. After their separation, Lee continued to support Michelle for some time but eventually stopped. Michelle then filed suit seeking to enforce the alleged agreement and requesting declaratory relief to determine her property and contract rights. She sought half the property acquired during their relationship and support payments.
