Inmates of the Attica Correctional Facility filed a complaint alleging that crimes were committed against them before, during, and after a prisoner revolt which resulted in the killing of 32 inmates. They alleged, among other things, that they were subjected to cruel and inhuman treatment prior to the riot, and that they assaulted and beat prisoners after the prison had been successfully retaken. They further alleged that the Deputy State Attorney did not investigate or prosecute any of these crimes.
