In re MyFord Touch Consumer Litigation
Citation:
46 F. Supp. 3d 936 (2014)Facts
The MyFord Touch (MFT) system was introduced by Ford in 2010 as a factory-installed, integrated communication, navigation, and entertainment system that allowed users to control various vehicle functions through voice and touch commands. Ford promoted the system heavily, emphasizing its safety, communication, and entertainment features, and charged approximately $1,000 as a stand-alone option. According to Plaintiffs, the MFT system suffered from serious problems, including freezing, crashing, black screens, and non-responsiveness to commands. These issues affected critical functions such as the navigation system, radio, rearview camera, and defroster. Plaintiffs alleged that Ford knew of these problems but failed to disclose them, and that despite multiple Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) and software updates issued by Ford, the problems persisted. Plaintiffs claimed these defects created safety risks as malfunctions distracted drivers and disabled important safety features. The twenty-three individual plaintiffs and one organization purchased or leased their vehicles between October 2010 and April 2013, with most purchases occurring in 2011 and 2012.
