Dale, the biological son of Gregory Burden and Sally Routt, was raised by Sally and her husband, Chris Agnew, who was listed as Dale’s father on his birth certificate. Gregory, though acknowledged as Dale’s biological father, did not have a relationship with him until Dale was 18. After learning of his biological father’s identity, Dale met Gregory’s family but was distanced from Gregory, who chose not to engage in a relationship. Over the years, Dale developed a close bond with Gregory’s family, but Gregory remained emotionally distant, despite some acknowledgment of Dale as his son. Gregory’s minimal involvement continued until his death in 2004, and Dale maintained efforts to connect with him, including sending cards and letters, which Gregory did not respond to
