In reviewing an applicant’s file, admissions officials must consider the applicant’s undergraduate GPA and LSAT score because they are important predictors of academic success in law school. In addition, so called soft variables such as the enthusiasm of recommenders, the quality of the undergraduate institution, the quality of the applicant’s essay, and the areas of difficulty of undergraduate course selection are all brought to bear in assessing an applicant’s likely contributions to the intellectual and social life of the institution.
