The Florida Bar (Petitioner) filed a petition charging Marilyn Brumbaugh (Respondent) with the unauthorized practice of law, and seeking a permanent injunction prohibiting her from engaging in the allegedly unlawful acts. Brumbaugh was a resident of Florida who was never a member of the Florida Bar. She published advertisements in local newspapers for “Marilyn’s Secretarial Service” offering to perform typing services for “Do-It-Yourself” divorces, wills, resumes, and bankruptcies. The Florida Bar contended that this was the unauthorized practice of law because she was offering to prepare legal documents as a non-attorney.
