Beavers v. Lamplighters Realty

In January 1974, Larry Beavers saw a house for sale and made an offer of $34,500 which was rejected. When he contacted Lamplighters Realty again, agent Jim Taylor falsely told him that the original builder, Paul Good, was coming “within the hour” with a check for $37,000 to purchase the property. This pressured Beavers into offering $37,250, which was accepted. Later, Beavers met Good by chance and learned that Good had never made such an offer and would have offered only “in the lower thirties.” Beavers also discovered the house needed approximately $6,000 in repairs due to misrepresentations about its condition. Beavers sued for $2,750 in compensatory damages and $50,000 in punitive damages.
