The plaintiff worked for the defendant as a truck driver. He was eventually elected as a shop steward for the local union. Later on, the plaintiff was issued a “warning letter” signed by his supervisor and initialed by his manager that reprimanded him from opening company male. The accusation in this letter was false because the defendant had never opened company mail. However, the reprimand letter created a whirlwind of rumors around the plaintiff. The plaintiff had overheard other workers gossip about him getting fired. Moreover, multiple drivers asked him about the warning letter.
