Liberal POV, a political magazine, ran a feature article stating that Jerome had purchased land near a proposed site for the new university a few years earlier.
The article claimed that Jerome had inside information from members of the Board of Regents of the university as to where the school would be located. The article stated that Jerome would now be able to sell the property to the state at a handsome profit.
